Hurricane Ike Aftermath for the Houston Texans

Oy! Hurricane Ike sure did shake things up in the Greater Houston area. Displacing many from their homes, this tempest caused extensive damage not just on the coast, but even further in-land.

First of all, let me say this...PEOPLE'S SAFETY ALWAYS COMES BEFORE SPORTS! Our number one priority right now is making sure to help our neighbors, friends, and families recover from this disaster.

That being said, during down times, we can always look forward to entertainment giving us a break from reality and helping to bring our spirits up. Nothing does this better than sports.

Thank goodness football season is upon us. Not only is it here, but this storm have given displaced fans a team to relate with...The Houston Texans.

With Reliant Stadium missing 5 of its 8 roof panels and suffering from water damage, the Texans may also be displaced from their homes. They can be a symbol for a city to rally around. So I say...let's rally around the Texans. Let's help rebuild our city by starting with standing behind a team that may have no home, just like many of us.

If it is deemed safe, the simple answer may be to play the rest of the home games this season with the roof open. Similar to chilling in your living room with no roof? Very much so.

This may be deemed unsafe and then what do we do? There are a number of options that people are speaking of. Perhaps Rice Stadium which has been host to a Superbowl in the past and can house nearly the amount of fans as Reliant.

My preference would be at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio. When the Saints were displaced, they played a few games here. It is a great facility and is very close to where I currently live, so I would get a chance to head to EVERY GAME. Only 3 hours from Houston, it's not a terrible idea. It would also help get these San Antonio natives who have NO TIES TO DALLAS, find a real team to root for rather than the Cowboys. Seriously, it's ridiculous the amount of Cowboy fans that are in San Antonio...in fact...it's disgusting. Houston is closer. Let's give them something to root for...a real team....let's introduce them to the Texans!

Then there is the Astrodome. It's still there. Yes it's old, but who cares. It is a stadium with tons of history! Let's go back to our roots and play there!

Whatever the new home of the Houston Texans is for the rest of the year, let's look at the positive side of the situation! Let's shove our middle finger in Hurricane Ike's face and get going with some happiness!
