The 5 Reasons Gary Kubiak Lost This Game For The Texans

As a Texans fan, I am most heated after watching them blow the game against the Tennessee Titans. I mean they truly blew it. They had many opportunities to win this game or take control of it and each time...they choked.

Who's fault was it?

Blaming Schaub for making passing decisions that a High School level Junior Varsity back-up Quarterback could make is one option, but I don't think he's the total culprit. Sure, he could have done better AND he was so intimidated by the Titans that he had a TERRIBLE 1st Quarter AND he has NO IDEA how to get the ball in the end zone, but he's not at fault for this loss.

So, who is?

Not Steve Slaton, I can tell you that much. Slaton played incredibly and played his heart out all the way down to being the only player who didn't give up on chasing Titan's CB Finnigan on his 99 yard INT return. Slaton exploded onto the scene (AS I SAID HE WOULD), and made a strong claim to be the starting back and future at running back for this organization.

It wasn't the defense either. They were weak in the first half, but they truly stepped up in the second half to give the offense a NUMBER of chances to come back.

The fault...lies with Kubiak, and after his choices in this game, I am no short of thought that he should be canned and kicked to the curb. No one in their right mind should want someone coaching who made some of the mistakes that he made today.

Why so harsh? I'll give you 5 reasons he lost the game for the Texans.

1. Keeping Schaub in the Game- Track record going back to both games last year show that Schaub is horrible against the Titans. He should have been given that first Quarter to see if this year would be different and when it appeared things hadn't changed, Kubiak should have YANKED Schaub and replaced him with Rosenfels for the remainder of that game. Rosenfels' track record against the Titans is much stronger and includes 2 (count them) 2 fourth quarter come backs that were nearly wins against the Titans.

2. Where's the Challenge?- In the first half, Titans Quarterback, Kerry Collins launched a pass down the sidelines to Justin McCareins that was ruled a completion. He didn't even get ONE foot in, much less two. Kubiak and company didn't even flinch. The play should have been challenged without question and it's Kubiak's fumble in this one.

3. TAKE THE POINTS, YOU IDIOT!- The Texans were down by 12 at the end of the third quarter and were facing a 4th and a few in the Titan's redzone. Still with PLENTY OF TIME, Kubiak elects to go for the first down, rather than take the points. What the hell was he thinking? With 5 minutes left in the game, this is a smart choice, but not with a FULL QUARTER TO PLAY. After that, they were in scoring position two more times before the game was over. Going for it on 4th and 1 from the 1 and not making it and throwing a pick happened the next time. Regardless, had they taken the field goal two of those times, they would only have been down by 6 with Schaub in a much better position to NOT throw up a prayer and win the game on that last drive. YOU ALWAYS TAKE THE POINTS AGAINST A DEFENSE LIKE THAT, GARY! What's wrong with you?!?!?!

4. Playcalling- Kubiak's playcalling was absolutely horrendous. He called plays that made no sense in the situations and completely shattered any confidence that the team and fans were going to have in Matt Schaub. Way to go, Kub.

5. Where Are Your Hands?- He needs to work the receiving core harder than they have ever worked before and he should have been tearing them a new a$$hole in this game. There were 3 passes dropped in the Endzone that were perfectly catchable balls. Two by Andre Johnson and one by Owen Daniels. It comes down to the coaching of he and Kyle Shannehan. They looked like CRAP against a mediocre secondary.

What's even more sad, is that Demarcus Faggins even came into this game and we can't blame him because he never got burned. If someone is going to take the wrap for this debauchle...it's Coach Gary Kubiak and if the Texans have a losing record this year...Kubiak better be looking for a job.

This was the single WORST coached game I have seen in my entire life.......and I've seen some bad games.

Let's see what happens next week...We go 3-2 after the first 5 and I may reconsider my strong opinion.

Texans Mission Statement...Eat it, Titans!

Dear Titan fan-

Please understand that Sept. 21st marks a change in regime. No longer are the sissy boys in baby blue going to constantly overpower the true power of the steel blue bull. Our time, Texan's fan, has come...

LET THE EX-OILER'S GO, Titan fan! The Oiler's died with Commander Cody, Didn't you get the memo? ...you should have jumped ship then, because it's coming. The day of judgement. The day of reckoning. The day the tables turn and our HOUSTON TEXANS (OUR HOME TEAM!!!!) WILL OVER COME!!! Behind the wheels of Steve Slaton and his 115 all purpose yards, Titan fan, you are going to eat it. Not just eat your words, but eat...it!

What's "it" you ask?

It is the that "cold, nasty, and alone feeling when you just got done dirty" and you're going to be left with Sunday afternoon.

The only thing worse than a Titans fan is a Cowboy's fan....

Slaton Will Rock This Weekend; Huguley's Humpday Predicitons #1

Steve Slaton makes his starting debut this weekend for the Houston Texans against the Tennessee Titans. Ahman "Did you think I said clutch? No. I said crutch" Green is down again. What a freakin' surprise? He is about as reliable as the New Orleans levees.

I have to say though, even though he is facing such a strong defensive team, Slaton's debut should be pretty dang exciting.

Slaton's slashing style may match up well with a hard nosed, "tough guy" defense like that of the Titans. His preseason showing was pretty solid and although his start is premature for most NFL standards, I think it will work out alright.

I'm more hopeful about this game than I probably should be, but the Texans have had the opportunity to truly prepare for this match up with the sudden Ike-forced sort of bye week and should give the Titans a true game.

This week, I am going to start my Huguley's Hump Day Prediction for the Texans as well as a few other notables from around the league.

So here goes:

- Texans will win by 9 or less, but they will win.
- Steve Slaton will go for 115 all purpose yards
- Mario Williams will have 1.5 sacks

OTHER NOTABLE PREDICTIONS:

- Matt Cassel will break out this game with 3 TD's
- Adrian Peterson will score twice
- Payton will have a field day, shooting for nearly 350 yards, but may come away slightly injured.
- Matt Forte will have the most rushing yards this week
- Deshaun Jackson will have the most receiving yardage

Let's see if I get anything right......

Hurricane Ike Aftermath for the Houston Texans

Oy! Hurricane Ike sure did shake things up in the Greater Houston area. Displacing many from their homes, this tempest caused extensive damage not just on the coast, but even further in-land.

First of all, let me say this...PEOPLE'S SAFETY ALWAYS COMES BEFORE SPORTS! Our number one priority right now is making sure to help our neighbors, friends, and families recover from this disaster.

That being said, during down times, we can always look forward to entertainment giving us a break from reality and helping to bring our spirits up. Nothing does this better than sports.

Thank goodness football season is upon us. Not only is it here, but this storm have given displaced fans a team to relate with...The Houston Texans.

With Reliant Stadium missing 5 of its 8 roof panels and suffering from water damage, the Texans may also be displaced from their homes. They can be a symbol for a city to rally around. So I say...let's rally around the Texans. Let's help rebuild our city by starting with standing behind a team that may have no home, just like many of us.

If it is deemed safe, the simple answer may be to play the rest of the home games this season with the roof open. Similar to chilling in your living room with no roof? Very much so.

This may be deemed unsafe and then what do we do? There are a number of options that people are speaking of. Perhaps Rice Stadium which has been host to a Superbowl in the past and can house nearly the amount of fans as Reliant.

My preference would be at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio. When the Saints were displaced, they played a few games here. It is a great facility and is very close to where I currently live, so I would get a chance to head to EVERY GAME. Only 3 hours from Houston, it's not a terrible idea. It would also help get these San Antonio natives who have NO TIES TO DALLAS, find a real team to root for rather than the Cowboys. Seriously, it's ridiculous the amount of Cowboy fans that are in San Antonio...in fact...it's disgusting. Houston is closer. Let's give them something to root for...a real team....let's introduce them to the Texans!

Then there is the Astrodome. It's still there. Yes it's old, but who cares. It is a stadium with tons of history! Let's go back to our roots and play there!

Whatever the new home of the Houston Texans is for the rest of the year, let's look at the positive side of the situation! Let's shove our middle finger in Hurricane Ike's face and get going with some happiness!
