The rumors have it that Houston Texans back-up Quarterback Sage Rosenfels has been dealt to the Minnesota Vikings for draft pick in this years draft. The Texans are asking for a 3rd rounder and the Vikings are offering a 5th rounder, so I am imagining that the Texans will end up with a 4th round pick.
A 4th round pick wouldn't fair the Texans too poorly as they have proven time and time again over the past several years to draft really, really well in the mid to later rounds of the NFL draft. Steals like Owen Daniels, Steve Slaton, Jacoby Jones, and Fred Bennett have come after the first two rounds of the draft.
As a fan though, it is slightly sad to see Rosenfels go. Sure he had a rollercoaster of a time in Houston. His 2007 season rocked as he filled in for an injured Schaub and won several games, highlighted by a near win 4 touchdown fourth quarter comeback against the Titans.
BUT...
Then there was the 2008 season. After Schaub was off to an 0-4 start, the fans were chanting and aching for Rosenfels to get the start. He finally got his chance when Schaub went down, but his helicopter like blunder and desperate attempt to prove himself that followed had us all begging for him to get off the field.
Now...a year after the negotiations with the Vikings had first started, something maybe finally coming of it. I say "maybe" because nothing can be announced nor officially confirmed until Friday, February 27th, 2009. That being said, this is pretty much a done deal...I'd stake a hefty bet on it...for entertainment purposes only.
This will work out better for both teams. The Texans will undoubtedly get their proven 4th round steal and the Vikings will get a talented Quarterback with several years left in the gas tank to team up with All-Day Adrian Peterson and a very, very talented defense. He'll do good things...and get paid much better than he has been.
So without further ado...thanks for the memories, Sage! Best of luck in Minnesota! (Let's hope Matt Schaub can stay healthy all season long next year. If not, I hear Brian Grease is available!)
