What The Sage Rosenfels Trade Means For Michael Vick

While he's not giving Michael Vick a good old fashioned "sneak up from behind" prison greeting, Sage Rosenfels is doing something of the like to Vick's career outside of the clink. The trade of Sage Rosenfels to the Minnesota Vikings puts a bit of a crinkle in Michael Vick's future. One that comes after the big crinkle of getting Commissioner Goodell to let him back into active duty.

It has been reported for a number of weeks that the two teams that were interested in trading to obtain the rights to Vick were the Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers. With the addition of Rosenfels to their roster, the Vikings will no longer be in the market for a Quarterback.

This royally screwed a great situation that Vick could have walked into. At Minnesota he would have had an offensive scheme that has been building around a lesser talented Quarterback with a very similar style, arguably the best Running Back in the NFL joining him in the backfield, as well as a solid defense to get him the ball back. Throw in the possibility of them picking up Marvin Harrison to beef up the Receiving core and he would have had a chance to have a brilliant comeback season.

But...that's not happening.

Instead, at this point he is left with the possibility of going to the 49ers who also need some help at the Quarterback position. The only difference: in San Francisco he'll have to deal with a plethora of protesting, dog hugging hippies through out his entire tenure there. More so than he would have anywhere else. Anyone remember what happened to one of his fellow Atlanta Falcons' house? That could happen here, but by crazed protesting hippies instead of a crazed woman.

On top of that...Frank Gore is a strong back, but he is far from the all around perfection that is Adrian Peterson. The offensive line hemorrhages blitzers and the defense...well...then there's the defense. Nothing terrible, yet nothing special. Let's not forget that Vick will have to deal with a Warden outside of the prison in head Coach Mike Singletary who will beat Michael Vick into submission.

Going to the 49ers may make Vick wish he was still in prison.

That is if the 49ers even take him. As an organization who has had the highest class throughout the years even if it meant being the second worst team in the league, they would have to be desperate to set their strict image aside and bring in a very talented Ex-Con who used to pit dogs against each other for their lives.

Personally, I think Vick should be given a second chance. He's fun to watch. I won't lie about that and if he's been running for his life and his corn-hole from big ole Prison bruisers for the past two years, he's probably gained some speed. Hitting the bells in the yard, probably has him beefed up a bit too. All in all, he may come out better fit than he did going in.

I vote for Vick to go to the Cleveland Browns where he will have to deal with the "Dog Pound" on a weekly basis. It would be an incredible marketing gimmick with all kinds of possibilities! Doubtful that would ever happen...but you never know.

Thanks to this Sage trade though, Vick's comeback career is going to be even more difficult. But hey...the Texans will be in a much better position!!!
