There are a number of Houston Texan fans out in the world who have given thought and even encouragement of the Texans acquiring Jay Cutler from the Denver Broncos. The main suggestion is to trade Matt Schaub and a draft pick for him, which is preposterous to begin with.
The Texans should absolutely NOT do anything of the sort.
They have all of the pieces nearly in place to have a team that can finally compete in the toughest division in football, the AFC South. Although he is prone to injury over the past two seasons, Matt Schaub knows the offense, runs it well, and needs no time to adjust. IF (and it's a big "IF") Schaub can stay healthy through the entire season, it should be a very good season.
Acquiring Cutler would be counterproductive to everything the Texans currently have done to build the team. He would have to learn the offensive schemes and plays, develop rhythms with Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter, Steve Slaton, and the rest of the offense, gain the trust and support of the locker-room, and adjust to a different breed of fan.
Not to mention he is a whiny brat who goes against everything that a Houston Texan stands for. The minute he throws his first interception and the fans boo or chant for "Schaub!" he would lose it.
The Texans should keep things as they are. Fill in the missing pieces of the Defense that will make this a championship team. Don't waste any time or thought on Jay Cutler. Let him stay in hippy-town.
