2009 Houston Texans Are Coming...You Better Be Ready

As Pre-Season is more than half-way complete, the REAL Houston Texans season that matters is fast approaching. It's time that I brought myself out of my 2 month writing hiatus/Texans research sabbatical and get to writing.

The stage is set for 2009 to be one hell of an NFL season with the HUGE side stories from Favre and Vick to the smaller ones like being the make-or-break year for Reggie Bush, Matt Schaub and the other players who may have the potential, but need to prove they can last.

Our own Houston Texans are also going to have an extremely exciting year. If all goes according to plan Steve Slaton, Matt Schaub, Andre Johnson and Company are gonna have the year of their careers as the Offense should top the NFL in productivity throughout the season.

I've also got a good feeling about rookie Connor Barwin. He and Antonio Smith are gonna help get some of the double teams off Mario Williams and allow him to make some big plays. Heck, I have a feeling they'll make plenty of big plays themselves. The Defensive front should be strong even though a few of the Young guys like Okoye and Okam have yet to prove their worth. It's not time to give up on the kids though...after all...Okoye really is just a KID and I have a feeling he'll be a man after this season one way or the other...

Perhaps the most exciting element of the 2009 Houston Texans is the receiving core. Andre Davis seems to be coming into his own and David Anderson is like a little fireplug who provides that needed "spark" in the 3 spot and reminds me a little of Wes Welker. Anderson is a great change of pace from the Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter. If he makes the team, Jacoby Jones should make a significant impact on the team though....the kid is talented. Sure he may drop some balls every now and again, but I certainly don't want to go back to the days of having a non-effective kick returner like JJ Moses or Corey Bradford. There is something about Jacoby Jones returning kicks that has to be seen by Gary Kubiak and Joe Marciano too. He's got that ability to make everybody hold their breath when he is back returning kicks....like Devon Hester and Joshua Cribbs. He can really make some big plays. Expect him to get a few shots downfield in this highly productive offense too.

Chris Brown's got something to prove this year and should do it as he comes in to give Steve a break from time to time. As long as he stays healthy, he should be a strong asset the the Texans running game.

As always we can expect good things from Kris Brown, who is one of the most accurate and underrated kickers in the league.

All in all, this should be a good year. Our boys should end up around 10-6 and have a strong chance at making the playoffs. Let's get it started!
