Dear Aaron Schobel-
Rumor has it that you worked out for the Texans yesterday, yet still can't decide if you'd like to come back or not. I'm not sure your reasoning for teeter-tottering, but let me attempt to persuade you.
WE NEED YOU!!! COME ON, MAN!!!
The city of Houston has been waiting so many years for a "real, asterisked" championship caliber team. Sure we had the Rockets in the early 90's, but they will always have the "Non-Jordan year" asterisk. We also had the Astros in their strong mid 2000's, but we can always count on Drayton Mclane to somehow let that team self destruct.
Ugh - then there were the Oilers - a team that ripped the hearts from fan's chests over and over again as they went to the playoffs, but failed to make anything out of it. They were high-flying Run-and-Shoot, but they lacked the defense and the "OOMPH" to push them over the edge and bring a championship to Houston.
Coming into the 9th season of the Texans existence, we've never had a football team like this. One with such exciting possibilities or one with so many talented players. From Schaub dropping bombs and a smash mouth offensive line lead blocking for Arian Foster to Mario Williams coming off the corner to force quarterbacks into the arms of Brian Cushing (after week 4), all the pieces seemed to be there.
Then - roving Defensive End Connor Barwin went down with a season ending injury in week 1. From Pre-season into that game it looked like the defense was built on getting Barwin sacks. He was able to bounce around the defensive line to find the right spot to rush off of with only ONE JOB: Get to the Quarterback. With teams having to focus on stopping Mario Williams and Brian Cushing, this seemed like a recipe for success.
Now Barwin is done for the season and the Texans pass defense seems incredibly crippled giving up over 1000 yards passing in only three games. Barwin was set for a BIG YEAR.
You know who could have even a bigger year...YOU!!! All you have to do is decide to come back and I will personally guarantee you will have an easy chance at 8+ sacks in the last 12 games.
Spending a career in Buffalo, couldn't have been fun at all. With the Texans, you could have an opportunity to play for a winning team with a real coach in a real city. There can't be that much for you in Columbus right now. The pros by far outweigh the cons. Get off your couch and get into a Texans uniform.
It's time to do what a true TCU alum would do...help out some fellow Texans in need.
Sincerely,
The Houston Sport Blog Staff
