Does Being 2-0 Mean The Texans Are Going to The Playoffs?

Question: Does being 2-0 mean the Houston Texans have a good chance of going to the Playoffs?

Let's take a look at what happened the passed 3 seasons, shall we?

After week 2 of the 2009 season, 8 teams had started 2-0. The New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants and Denver Broncos all had the strong start.

While the Falcons, Giants and Broncos failed to make the playoffs, they still finished 8-8 and were fighting for playoff spots most of the season. The four teams that made the AFC and NFC Championships all started 2-0 as well as the Saints and Colts who made it all the way to the Superbowl.

2008 saw similar results. 5/8 teams that made the playoffs (including both superbowl teams this year as well)started off 2-0. That year, the Steelers, Cardinals, Giants, Titans and Panthers all started 2-0 and made the playoffs. The Cowboys, Patriots, Bills, Broncos and Packers also had a strong start, but failed to make the playoffs.

2007 was a little more muddled. The Patriots, Steelers, Colts and Cowboys all started 2-0 and made the playoffs (Patriots to the Superbowl), but the Texans also started 2-0 this year only to finish 8-8. To their credit, this was the year that they lost Andre Johnson after week 2 also, so I think it is safe to say that history shouldn't repeat itself in their case. For reference the Broncos, 49ers and Lions surprisingly also all started 2-0.

History tells us that based on the 2007, 2008 and 2009 results and based on their start in 2010 the Texans have a great shot of making the playoffs and even the AFC Championship - if Andre stays healthy of course.

In 2010 the teams that are 2-0 are the Texans, Saints, Steelers, Dolphins, Bears, Chiefs and Buccs. Out of those and looking at history, I predict that the Texans, Steelers, Dolphins, Saints and Bears all make the playoffs. Tack on the Colts, Jets and Chargers in the AFC and Packers, Redskins, Seahawks and Vikings in the NFC and you'd have a safe bet for the 12 teams that will make the playoffs.

If history is worth repeating, looks like there are chances we could see a Texans vs Saints Superbowl....

Man - it must stink to be a Broncos fan. Three years of strong starts only to fail. Sheesh.
