The Giants sacked Cutler 10 times, including a record 9 times in the first half. So, was this more on the Giants or did the Bears acquire the Houston Texans 2005 Offensive line?
Team Bears Game Other Games
Giants 10 2/game (1 vs Tenn; 1 vs Indy; 4 vs Car)
GB 3 4.33/game (6, 4, 3)
Dallas 1 2.5/game (1, 4)
Detroit 4 3/game (5, 2, 2)
Its hard to discern from that data if the Bears O-line is just bad. In the other games that New York played, though, they had two poor sack numbers and one quality game. By comparison, when Houston played Indy, they tallied two sacks. Indy just doesn't give up sacks. They've given up 2, 1, 0 and 1. Tennessee has given up 2, 4, 1, 2. Carolina IS pathetic and they have given up 4, 4, 1, 3.
So, taking all of that information, it seems like the first half of the Bears game was an aberration. The Giants seem to get the same amount of pressure that other teams get on the QBs. With that in mind, how have the Texans fared against the pass rush?
In their four games:
Vs Indy: 1
vs Wash: 5
vs Dallas: 4
vs Oak: 0
So. From that, who knows what Texans team will show up. They held Richard Seymour and Dwight Freeney to only one sack. But NFC East teams have lit Schaub up.
The key will be having the Texans set the pace. When Tennessee and Indy started out quick, they put New York on their heels and never looked back. Chicago started out slow and Carolina played like Carolina and it was like blood in the water. The Giants are relentless if they get the Psychological advantage over you and will keep coming and coming and make it a long day.
