Rooting for Ex-Houston Payers

Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman are one series away from the World Series and most are predicting them to both to return to the World Series for the first time since 2005. Unfortunately it isn't with the Houston based team they started the year off with. Berkman has moved on to the New York Yankees and Oswalt to the Philadelphia Phillies.

I, personally, will be happy for either to see them win a World Series ring. They were always champions of Houston and beloved by the city and fans and I think everyone would love to see those guys retire with a World Series ring. But, if anybody is reading this, I would like to know who you are rooting for if the Yankees square off against the Phillies. I always liked Berkman a little more because of his jovial personality, but he is on baseball's equivalent of the evil Palpatine led Empire.

We haven't had to do much rooting for Houston icons after they departed our fair city.

Hakeem Olajuwon - Hakeem left for the Toronto Barneys. (Traded for picks that brought us Boki Nachbar. Ugh.) They had a quick stint in the playoffs as the Detroit Pistons dispatched them in the first round.

Jeff Bagwell - Retired as an Astro

Craig Biggio - Retired as an Astro

Earl Campbell - Traded to the Saints, but never was above .500 and never sniffed the playoffs.

David Carr - Just kidding.
