Until now the Player Spotlight on HoustonSportBlog.com has been about featuring newly picked up lesser known Texans players, so that fans can get an idea of who they are. One such player burst onto the scene this year and played so well that he flew under the radar in terms of seeming to need to be featured in the player spotlight. He's been spotlighting himself with his incredible game play. This week however, it's time that someone else put the spotlight on Arian Foster and gives some insight to the fans about the talented undrafted free-agent running back out of Tennessee. Ranking second in the NFL in rushing yards thus far in the 2010 season, Foster is showing no signs of slowing down - and the Texans coaches, players and fans couldn't be more excited about it.
Arian Foster - RB #23
- Height: 6-1 Weight: 227 Age: 24
- Born: 08/24/1986 in Sulphur Springs , TX
- College: Tennessee
- Experience: 2nd Season
- Other Teams: None
- Draft Status: 2009 - Undrafted Free Agent
- Career Accomplishments & Awards: In the first game of the 2010 season against the Indianapolis Colts, Foster broke the Texans single game rushing record with 231 yards on 33 carries. This was the single best rushing performance against the Colts of all time and was the 2nd highest total for any running back on opening day. Foster broke another record this year in the Raiders game on a 74 yard run that was the longest run in Texans history.
- Strength: Foster is extremely good at following blockers to the hole, making one cut and hitting the hole. He is a big, smart back who has speed and agility to match. As games go on, he seems to get better. Foster is also only 24, so he has a number of solid years ahead of him if he keeps things up.
- Weakness: Perhaps his only weakness is his lack of experience as well as Kubiak's inability to give Foster the ball as much as he should
- Trivia & Extras: Foster is known for his signature bow when he scores a touchdown. It's his way of showing "respect for the game of football." At Tennessee, Foster was a Philosophy major who in his spare time writes poetry - some of his stuff you can see on his twitter page.
